FAFSA Opened Oct 1
Next Step News

High school students need to expose themselves to many experiences that can assist them in making a more informed decision about post-secondary options and career opportunities. Attending college fairs and preview days can help students get a feel for a college. Shadowing a few professionals can give insight to potential career options.

Exposure is Important

October 1st is a big day for each senior class. It is the day that families can begin applying for Federal financial aid, including the Pell Grant. Students and parents will need to prepare to complete the FAFSA application as soon as possible. To assist, the Next Step Education team has partnered with the Georgia Student Finance Commission to host a FAFSA 101 Workshop on September 28th.

Early Decision and Early Action applications should be finalized and submitted this month. Have a parent, teacher, counselor, or other adult review the application before it is submitted.

Every college will require a copy of your transcript from your high school. Follow your school’s procedure for sending transcripts.

Make sure testing companies have sent your scores directly to the colleges to which you are applying.

Continue to research and visit colleges.

Continue preparing for the PSAT. If you have taken it, get ready for the SAT or ACT next semester.

Start positioning yourself for leadership roles in extracurricular activities
